The Office Cam & Interactive LED Sign

The Office Cam (formerly The Live View of Chicago) uses an Axis 207MW 1.3MP network camera to send an image up to my server every 15 seconds. Because hooking devices up to the Internet is considerably more fun than just having a cam, you can also send us a message by a decidedly more unique method: Through an Alpha PPD220 LED sign using a custom application I wrote.

(Refreshes every 15 seconds, even when Ustream’s offline!)

In a past life, this LED display served as lottery terminal at some convenience store in the southeast U.S.; I’d argue this is a much better use for it.

Notifications are also sent to Twitter. If you’re looking for a laugh—or monumental sadness at the state of our society—spend a few minutes digging through the archives.
